SDI (Strength Deployment Inventory) is a set of tools for understanding the motives and values that drive our behaviour and result in better relationships with others. The use of SDI tools in everyday life influences the development of self-awareness and ultimately leads to better interpersonal relationships.
With the help of this tool, individuals can better understand themselves and others, and this understanding enables them to be leaders with a positive attitude and empathy, while building stronger teams and effectively overcoming conflicts.
Although many tools focus on what we do, SDI goes further and deeper helping us to understand why we and others behave in a certain way.
The results of the SDI assessment methods reflect personal experiences and are shown as a chart of processed data. In addition, SDI allows for a reality which says that people are different (even when there are a lot of similarities between themselves) and react differently in different situations. A man of the 21st century lives in such circumstances that allow for more intensive development of individuals, so it is very important to understand how differences affect our interactions. SDI provides the basis for understanding who we are and what motivates us, and provides the same insight into other individuals.
Such an in-depth insight into the character of ourselves is particularly useful for us in conflict situations. SDI is, in this case, a dual tool that clearly shows us the degree and nature of changes that take place from the point when everything seems right to the point of conflict.
SDI helps people connect with one of 7 values of the Motivational Value System (MVS) and one of thirteen conflict sequences. The MVS of each person represents a point on a triangle that is marked with colours, and their conflicting state is an arrow indicating that their motives are usually changed during the phase of the conflict. And people working in a team see their results in the context of their team.
SDI is a powerful tool for all levels of organization. A detailed analysis of the behaviour in certain situations allows leaders and team members to better understand how to influence people who think, behave, and communicate in a different way.
In today’s business environment where jobs have become more complex and strategically important, social and emotional skills have become a key factor for success, especially for executives and leaders. As employees progress through the organization to higher positions, their performance is not measured only on the basis of the results achieved, but also in the way they manage their relationships with stakeholders (colleagues, team members, external clients, shareholders, etc.).
SDI helps leaders at all levels to focus on the way they communicate and work with each other and the way they use individual and team strengths for their business needs. The result is reduction of conflicts and improvement of cooperation and mutual trust, thus building productive working relationships for sustainable and good results.
There are eight tools available that we can use individually or in combination, depending on the results we want to achieve.
SDI tools are grouped as follows:
- Self-assessment tools – insight into one’s own personal motivation, strengths and understanding of the motives of other individuals
- Feedback tools – how others see us, and what strengths and skills they notice
- Tools of expectation – what others expect from us, and what we would like to use in relations with them and the environment
Advantages of the SDI program:
A clear and precise tool that answers your questions “why” and “because of what’’
It gives you a simple and precise answer about who you are and what is your system of motivation that triggers your behaviour
You can use everything you learn
SDI is not only good in theory, this tool is actually very useful and suitable for practical work. Using this tool, you are enabled to recognize and communicate in a practical and easy way with people of different motivational systems.
Respects diversity
SDI provides us with an insight into the unique way in which we evaluate different forces and interpret the actions and behaviour of others. This helps us recognize the situations when we need to use different behaviours according to the conditions in which we are located and to adapt adequately.
It is a unique and practical tool
The details and facts we receive through SDI analysis are crucial to improving every situation in which there is interaction between people. In other words, it is designed for people and organizational systems. Simple graphic representations in the form of triangles as well as the use of primary colours make SDI a very visual, easily understandable tool.
It is a great way to solve conflict situations
By helping people understand what is relevant to others they interact with, and providing a simple and common language for the discussion of difficult and challenging situations, the SDI allows for the safe handling and resolution of conflicts.
The SDI tool is available on-line, i.e. on the web and there is also a hard copy version. Reports can be generated online or by filling in a hard copy questionnaire.
